A multidisciplinary creative working to manifest community.
I was born in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico right outside el mercado on a day that the streets were filled with indigenous dancers, the smell of copal, fireworks, and parading flowered Xuchiles from dawn until midnight. This shaped my strong cultural and creative identity. It is also where I gained my sense of color, knack for folkloric celebration, and my bond to my Indigenous and Mexican heritage. As a bi-cultural designer, I grew up in Pennsylvania, was educated and learned to hustle in New York City, and traveled to as many corners of the world as I could to hear people's stories. I now call the San Fernando Valley home with my partner, rescue cats, and native garden.
I have experience with creative facilitation, even production, design strategy, and education. My strengths lay in being a strong conceptual thinker and in my multidisciplinary background in cultural studies, art and design, narrative inquiry, participatory design, social justice, and education. I am a creative strategist with passion and a purpose, and I aim to manifest community.

Education
I completed my M.A. with distinction from California State University Northridge. My research, concerned with how self-narratives as creative works can be strategies for Borderland identities and the Mexican diaspora, culminated in a double thesis-project that included a full written thesis, original art (multimedia), and exhibition. I also hold a B.F.A. from the School of Visual Arts in NYC and have studied fine art at the Instituto Allende in Mexico.

Design Practice
I have significant experience in print, brand strategy, and editorial design for leading institutions, non-profits, and publishers. I excel at getting deep under the visuals to create stories that reflect the why and how of my clients’ culture in a glance.

I have worked coast-to-coast to support large-scale global marketing and advertising initiatives, brand development firms, emerging media think tanks, and academic research initiatives to craft compelling experiences through design.

Teaching
Teaching Philosophy: I believe in dialogic, peer-led learning and learner-centered approach that responds to the needs of students. I offer culturally relevant approaches to learning and embed a Maker-philosophy in the class room where I encourage learn-through-doing (active learning). I believe in humanizing and teaching the whole student.
